We left at 5:00am two days in a row to view Angkor Wat.  According to our trusty Let's Go, it was constructed during the reign of Suryavarman II, 1113-1150.  The temple faces west, the direction associated with death in Hindu cosmology, leading scholars to believe that it was constructed as a funerary temple.  The Let's Go says that, "With their unrivaled beauty and majesty, the temples of Angkor deserve their reputation as one of the great man-made wonders of the world."  We couldn't agree more.   Here, hundreds of early dawn visitors stream past on their way inside the walls to see the sun rise over Angkor.
